How to Make the Most of Your Sunday

Did you feel ‘em yesterday? Those Sunday Blues? If you’re stuck in a corporate 9-to-5, you’re probably slugging through Monday to Friday, then you get Saturday and Sunday to relax. If you’re out there in construction, hospitality, the medical world, or whatever, your week’s likely a whole different beast, but I’m betting you’ve still got a “Sunday.” That one day you can’t go too crazy because tomorrow you’re back on the clock. Sometimes it’s tough to enjoy that day when you’re already stressing about the thing you’re not doing—working. I’m itching to go off on a tangent about being in the moment, but I’ll hold off for another newsletter when I’m feeling all philosophical and Aristotle-vibes.

If you use it right, Sunday can be a total game-changer. A lot of us, when we fall off the wagon with a diet, routine, or habit, we’re like, “Alright, Monday, I’m getting back to it.” No more screwing up, we’re going to be disciplined again. But here’s the key—it’s way easier to actually do that if you set your life up to make it happen. If I want to get back on my diet starting Monday, there’s nothing I love more than a fresh grocery shopping trip. Gosh dangit, I LIVE for a stocked pantry and fridge. But you have to buy food that’s going to aid you on your diet. If you’re hauling home Cheetos, Lucky Charms, apple juice, and DiGiorno pizza, you’re not really setting yourself up to win at eating better come Monday.

Now, you know the age-old rule: never, EVER go grocery shopping when you’re hungry. And man, oh man, have I made that mistake more times than I’d like to admit. When you’re starving, every single thing looks like something you need. Buy two, get two free cans of baked beans? Heck yeah. Buy one, get one donuts? Not missing that deal. You know what I’m saying. Best thing you can do is shop after you’ve eaten so your growling stomach isn’t picking out your groceries.

Next, you have to attack the grocery store with a plan. Sure, having a general idea of what you’re getting is fine, but it’s so easy to splurge or forget stuff if you don’t have a real game plan. LIKE THE HALF AND HALF I FORGOT AT THE STORE THIS MORNING. Anyway, I digress. If you take a few minutes to check your fridge and pantry before you go, and maybe figure out a couple healthy meals you wan to make for the week, you’re setting yourself up to win. You’re controlling what’s in your house, so it’s harder to mess up your diet, and you’ve got meals ready to go so you don’t end up grabbing fast food or some junky alternative.

Next, get your house in order—literally. I know everyone’s different, but speaking from my own experience (which, let’s be honest, is the whole point of newsletters), tidy up your space. Nothing screams productivity and sets the stage for progress like a clean home. I’m not saying you have to go full Cinderella and scrub every nook and cranny, but tackle the basics: do your laundry, put away the dishes, wipe down the countertops, vacuum your floor, and clean your bathroom sink. It sounds like a lot, I know, but trust me—you can knock out these chores in under an hour. Put on your favorite comfort show in the background, queue up some music, whatever brings you calm, and just get those tasks done. You’ll be amazed at how great you feel for the rest of your day or even the whole week. It’s honestly incredible.

I hope you can now tackle those Sundays with ease! Have a great week!
